Linda Mitton started her career in information security in 1991 with CIBC when the major excitement was how to protect dial up on twisted pair and executive laptops while they were travelling. Thirty years later her career came full circle when due to the pandemic she was asked to help protect executive laptops while they remotely connected to the corporate network no matter where they may be in the world.
Linda has had a varied career while at CIBC she worked in information security, internal audit, and IT service management. In her final position at CIBC, she was responsible for ensuring 60 billion in mortgage assets remained intact and viable. An important part of her training at CIBC was data flow analysis, identifying when data crossed secure boundaries, and a holistic approach to information security from data capture to storage.
Her next big venture was working with KPMG in the Toronto, Ottawa, and Bermuda offices. At KPMG Linda focused on all aspects of client management, she qualified new business opportunities, attended pre-sales meetings, delivered services, maintained a positive customer relationship, and resolved all client concerns. While at KPMG Linda’s most notable clients’ requests were to act as the Privacy Compliance Officer for KPMG Bermuda when GDPR came into effect. Assisted the VP of CIBC IT Internal Audit in the review, revision, and implementation of the information technology internal audit strategy. Redesigned the information security governance for the Canadian Department of National Defence after 9/11.
During her career Linda has also worked as the Director, Security & Compliance for the Atlantic Lottery Corporation and as an independent consultant.
Linda understands that lifelong learning is a requirement for information security and the effective audit of technology. Artificial intelligence is a significant change on the technology landscape and determining how to audit its configuration and operating design is key for business success.
Linda’s certifications include CISSP, CISM, and CISA. She is currently the Governance Risk and Compliance Practice Lead for Parabellyx Cybersecurity.
