Brian Brown possesses a unique combination of senior-level private, public, and non-profit sector experience in governance, internal audit, risk management, fraud, and internal controls. He has also provided extensive professional level education services in various sectors.
Brian is a recognized leader in the internal audit profession with over 30 years of experience including 24 years leading five Internal Audit departments. Recently retired as Chief Audit Executive for the Canadian Grain Commission, Brian is now providing independent consulting and education services in the areas of governance, internal audit, and risk. Previously, he led internal audit activities with The Great-West Life Assurance Company, Agricore United and its predecessor, UGG, and with Sears Canada Inc. In these Internal Audit leadership positions, Brian has collaborated closely with and supported Boards of Directors, Audit Committees, Risk Committees (Board), and Executive Management Committees.
Brian has been providing education services for many years and a frequent speaker at conferences and other events. He is a founding faculty member of The Directors College and a Distinguished Faculty Member for the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). He has also served as faculty for the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Caribbean Governance Training Institute.
Brian is a graduate with honours from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and holds the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Management Accountant (CPA,CMA), Chartered Director (C.Dir.), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designations.
