The 2020s: The Decade Ahead for Internal Audit
The 2020s are already posing significant new challenges for the internal audit profession. COVID-19 shows us that risks, some not even on our radars, are evolving at unprecedented rates. That’s why it is essential for internal auditors at all levels to be well prepared for what lies before us now and in the years ahead. While it is impossible to foresee the future of internal auditing with 100 percent accuracy, it is often said that the best way to predict what is on the horizon is to study the present and the past. That’s why we must look at where we have been, where we are now, and, importantly, where we are headed. It’s not enough to predict the future: Our mission is to determine how we will get there.
Key learning areas of this presentation include:
Understanding our journey over the past decade
Examining the world around us today, including misalignment on key risks and weakness in corporate governance
A call to action for the road ahead, as the line of human-machine interface becomes
permanently blurred, the evolution of cybercrimes, and the world is tested by significant political, health and economic crises.
5 things we must get right: becoming a beacon for emerging risks, developing and retaining talent, championing strong governance, innovating, and telling internal audit’s story.
