Outside the Comfort Zone: What attempting Mt. Kilimanjaro can teach us about leadership and risk taking

Level: Basic

At 19,341 feet, Kilimanjaro has about 1/2 the oxygen of sea-level.  Climbing “the mountain” crosses 5 climate zones and temperatures range from +30C to the equivalent of -30C.  Only about 65% attempts are fully successful. and deaths do occur.   Doug will share his experiences of expedition and being ‘outside of his comfort zone’ as he developed his vision, inspired, motivated and encouraged himself and his accompanying family members to prepare for this incredible adventure and how they met the challenges of the climb.  He will contrast and compare his experiences with the leadership skills and competencies of being an Internal Audit Leader including: developing shared goals, identifying and managing risk, leadership responsiblities and attributes, traits of trusted advisors, handling diverse opinions, communication and above all, perseverance.
