Develop Your Creative Side: Creativity & Leadership

This session is all about adapting to change and using creativity as a competitive edge.  It will expand on the “Free to Members Webinar” (Jan 10, 2017) session to explore the notion of creativity from the perspective of leadership development.  As David Usher states in his book Let the Elephants Run: “Visualize creative thinking as a language.  Once you speak the language of creativity you can talk about many different subjects, not just one.”  Our profession is often stereotyped a certain way.  We are described as logical, practical, analytical, sequential thinkers but that is not the only part of who we are.  We all can share a story about a time that someone spoke critically of something we did/created perhaps causing us to put creativity on the back self to avoid that feeling of vulnerability ever again.  What the research suggests is that creativity and putting yourself out there is what gives you the competitive edge.  It allows you to adapt and keep up with the changing environment.  Creativity and curiosity might not fit or make sense to our practical nature but it is a part of who we are and by ignoring it, we are not drawing on our fullest potential. “There’s probably no better example of the throttling of creativity than the difference between what we observe in a kindergarten classroom and what we observe in a high school classroom…” – Madeline Levine, Teach Your Children Well
